When I first started their were only a handful of brands, with the major brands being: Pioneer, Kenwood, Alpine, Crunch, and JVC.
Their were many other brands that were available but not very popular, Kraco, Jensen, Thump, Anaba, Mobile Authority, Power Acoustik, Eclipse, and a few more.
The prices 15 years ago were very high compared to now. A real 500 watt amplifier could cost as much as $500 back then. Today you can pickup a comparable 500 watt amp for less than half of that. In fact, some real car audio wholesalers will sell a true 500 watt amplifier for less than $100.00, and cd players are another story. An am/fm cd player with anti skip technology could cost as much as $500, now I can buy one for less than $75.00.
